The Bombardier CL-600 Challenger 604 is a popular and well-respected aircraft in the aviation industry. With its versatile design, it has been a favorite among corporate and private clients for many years.
This particular aircraft with the registration 2-SLOW and MSN 5422 was built in 1999 and was originally registered as D-ADNE for Daimler Chrysler Aviation. Over the years, it has undergone several ownership changes and registrations, including G-JMMD and G-MPCW for MP Aviation, G-SPMP for Patronus, G-MPSP for Bluejets, AP-DOD for a private owner in Pakistan, OE-IHK for International Jet Management and for Volare Aviation as well with different registrations.
Despite its rich history and widespread popularity, the journey of 2-SLOW came to an unfortunate end on January 27, 2022. At 03:30 during a refueling stop at Iraklio Airport in Crete, Greece, a malfunction in the landing gear caused a nose gear collapse during a flight from Oxford. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident and the aircraft safely landed with four passengers and three crew members on board. Authorities kept the main runway closed for just three hours – a testament to the skill and professionalism of those involved in the operation.
As for the CL-600 Challenger 604 type, it has been a top choice for many private and corporate clients for its versatility and efficiency. It is a long-range business jet capable of carrying up to 19 passengers in a spacious and comfortable cabin. With a range of up to 4,000 nautical miles, it can fly non-stop on transcontinental routes.
With a cruising speed of Mach 0.80, the Bombardier 604 is one of the fastest aircraft in its category. However, the performance of the aircraft greatly depends on the range of the mission and the number of passengers. On longer flights, a slower “Long-Range Cruise” is flown, which corresponds to a cruising speed of approximately Mach 0.74.
According to industry reports, over 1.000 Bombardier CL-600 Challenger 604 aircraft have been delivered to customers around the world, making it one of the most popular and widely used business jets in its class. Whether for corporate or private use, the CL-600 Challenger 604 continues to be a highly sought-after aircraft for its reliability, comfort and versatility.
The aircraft is built in North America and the majority of Challenger 604 jets are located here, followed by Europe and Asia. The popularity of the aircraft in the USA is due to its ideal range for coast-to-coast flights.
The purchase price for a new Challenger 604 jet is around 27 million US dollars. On the used market, however, the jet can be found for as “low” as 5 million USD. The hourly variable operating costs for the Challenger 604 are approximately 3,100 USD.
However, after the unfortunate incident with 2-SLOW, Aviationtag was able to secure parts from the aircraft and upcycle them into a unique Aviationtag collection. This collection serves as a testament to the legacy of the Bombardier CL-600 Challenger 604 and a reminder of the important role it has played in the aviation industry.
