Australian Aviation Icon: Discover the Boeing 747-400ER VH-OEG's Aviationtag Tale

In the vast expanse of the Mojave Desert, where retired aircraft find solace in their final resting place, a silent giant tells the tale of its glory days. The Boeing 747-400ER VH-OEG, affectionately named "Parkes" after the New South Wales town, once soared across the skies as a proud member of Qantas, Australia's national flag carrier. It was one of only 6 Boeing 747-400ER (Extended Range) ever - specifically build for Qantas. The ER could fly 800 km farther, or carry 6.800kg more payload, than the -400.

From 2002 to 2020, this majestic Queen of the Skies painted its legacy across the heavens. Today, its journey continues, not into the fading sunset, but into a new chapter of upcycling, where Aviationtag breathes new life into its storied fuselage. Attach it to your keys, embellish your luggage, or showcase it in your collection – a small yet powerful memento of the Queen of the Skies' remarkable odyssey with Qantas.

Note: Each Aviationtag is unique. Depending on the aircraft, they differ in their feel, thickness of the material and color. Small bumps tell of the many years in the skies and express the character of days gone by. Small scratches, paint chips and bumps are completely normal and give the Aviationtag its special charm - that of a vintage product made from upcycled materials. These special features are not the result of the production process, but reflect the condition of the aircraft material used!

The VH-OEG stood in the hot desert sun in Mojave for a long time. Flaking paint is completely normal and we cannot prevent it. Flaking paint is not grounds for complaint. When using it as a keyring or luggage tag, we recommend using the Aviationtag protective cover .

Boeing 747: The Boeing 747 is a four-engine wide-body aircraft that has conquered aviation since the 1960s. The first 747 aircraft made its maiden flight in 1969 and remained the largest passenger aircraft in the world until 2005. Its wingspan is 64.44 meters and the vertical deflection at the wing tip is up to 16 meters. The distinctive “hump” is characteristic of their silhouette, hence their nickname Jumbo Jet.

The 747-400's most noticeable aerodynamic improvement over previous 747s is its 1.8-meter (6-foot) longer wing with a 6-foot-tall winglet that is angled upward and slopes slightly outward.

The VH-OEG is a Boeing 747-400ER (Extended Range), a development by Boeing just for Qantas, which can fly a good 800km further with an additional tank.
