Aviationtag’s Cuba Edition: The Story Behind the D-AXGA
The story of Aviationtag’s Cuba Edition takes us on a journey spanning continents and decades. It all starts with an Airbus A330-203, serial number MSN 530, first delivered in 2003 as B-16301 to EVA Air of Taiwan. For 12 years, this aircraft faithfully served EVA Air, operating routes across Asia and beyond, contributing to the airline’s reputation for reliability and service.
In 2015, the aircraft transitioned to a new chapter, becoming D AXGA under the banner of Eurowings. Operated by SunExpress Deutschland, it was part of an ambitious attempt by the Lufthansa Group to break into the long-haul leisure market. This venture aimed to capture the growing demand for affordable long distance travel, but it faced challenges.
Despite its initial promise, Eurowings' long-haul operations struggled with operational difficulties, including severe delays - some of which left passengers stranded for over 30 hours.

The A330-200s, including D AXGA, were ultimately grounded in 2020 at Munich Airport. The planes stood silently behind hangars, engines removed, their future uncertain. By 2023, these remnants of Eurowings’ long haul fleet were finally decommissioned. However, a unique opportunity arose during this process: the cargo door of D-AXGA, featuring a distinctive “Cuba” motif, was carefully preserved and transformed.
At Aviationtag, we’re honored to give aircraft a second life, capturing their stories in ever tag. The pieces from the D- AXGA’s iconic cargo door were carefully upcycled in our workshop, undergoing a meticulous process of cutting, cleaning, and shaping to bring you the now-sold-out Cuba Edition. Each aircraft tag reflects the rich history of D AXGA, from its early days with EVA Air to its ambitious but brief long-haul service with Eurowings.
We’re grateful for the enthusiasm and support from collectors worldwide, and we hope these tags create a lasting connection to aviation history for everyone who managed to get one!
