We have been looking for a former Austrian Airlines aircraft for a long time and now we have finally found it! And where can you find a plane from the neighboring country? In the US, of course, so it now has a few more miles under its non-existent hump.
We are very pleased to be able to present you the Aviationtag Edition of the former Austrian Airlines Boeing 767-300ER OE-LAX today. The OE-LAX with the MSN 27095 was delivered to the then Lauda Air in 1992 and was given a sonorous christening with "James Dean".
After 15 years of service, the airline founded by former Formula 1 pilot Niki Lauda switched the Boeing 767 to Austrian Airlines in 2007 as part of the takeover. There it was given the nickname “Salzburg Festival”.
So the OE-LAX finally ended up with the cargo airline Kalitta Air in Michigan, which still registered the machine as N788CK, but only exploited it for spare parts. We jumped at the chance and were able to secure some beautiful parts of the Boeing 767 for our aviation tags!
